Evil District Attorneys and Witches

Evil men floated in my dreams last night. The men are two people I know and I actually sat between them at a hearing yesterday. They are two of the most notorious, bloodthirsty District Attorneys in Georgia. Though I work with one of them regularly, my nervousness of them goes so deep not to put their names on this blog for fear that it would get back to them and there would be personal repercussions. In the dreams that continued even though I'd wake up from time to time, their heads (no bodies) kept floating in my peripheral vision as I looked around in my dream. It was nerve wrecking.

Finally I had a different dream in which Alex and I were walking hand in hand in Decatur Square. We noticed an exhibit of Disney villains that you could see a preview of by throwing a quarter into a jar. We threw our quarter in and the statues we were all of a sudden surrounded by came to life. They were real people and moving in circles around each other and us. It was like we were trapped in the middle of a ballet stage. Then I realized that three of the performers were really evil witches and I pulled Alex's hand to try to get out of there. I was immediately face to face with an evil witch and she screeched and my heart jumped and then I woke up.

Scary Crabs, Dogs, Teeth, and Dude

I was at a conference for work but it was actually a cult. First I had to cook - I made crabs which I did not know how to cook. They tasted exactly like bacon. (I had watched Top Chef right before bed.) Then walking around the conference I noticed something - there were dogs all over the place and they all had scary red lights for eyes and stared at me. They were possessed. Then I realized that the guy in charge of the conference had possessed the dogs because he was evil. So I asked him about it and he was super fake-nice, but I knew he was evil. Because then all of my teeth were loose and one of them fell out. I was very upset about this. And the frustrating thing was that no one else seemed to notice or care that the place was evil, the dogs were possessed, and it was odd that my teeth were falling out. I woke up very scared.

A jungle

I had a dream that I was at an office building. I was working there. I feel like maybe it was the same building that the TV show "Ugly Betty" takes place (I've been watching a lot of that show latley). But I was on one of the lower levels. I was doing something with the post office.. or maybe just with paper and letters.
I left and called my sister to tell her my cell phone was dying and that I was on my way to the Alliant Energy Center. I was taking the bus there. I was with someone else. I know they were male but I'm not sure who it was. Maybe my brother.
We got off the bus a little late and had to walk further to get there. But it didn't look anything like the Alliant. We were at the top of a hill that was surrounded by a jungle. And I looked out over the trees and saw a tennis court.
I looked to my left and saw a lion come out of the trees. I was terrified. Then there was some sort of old ruins around us. That had window type cut outs. We tricked the lion into climbing up into the window and I told him that I didn't trust him. The lion could talk for some reason. So he was sitting up in one of the windows. I pushed him out. But somehow he lived. And said "I guess you're the one that can't be trusted" and he began to attack us. But it was a teasing kind of a attack. Not using his full strength. I got behind him at some point. I think the other person I was with had him restrained somehow. I wrapped my hands around him and started to pull out his eyes with my hands.
Then my alarm went off.

Checkpoints and Rocket Ships

I had a dream that I was in Gaza in Tom's blue pickup truck. I was about to drive across the border to Israel. I was on a long highway and there was a huge line of cars waiting to cross. There was a checkpoint up ahead, but many officers were stationed every few yards who were checking cars. I got super nervous and looked in the passenger seat. There was a huge metal industrial meat cutter. I looked on the floor and there was a big plastic toy in a shopping bag that looked like a rocket ship. The rocket ship was blue and yellow. Somehow I knew that the rocket ship was actually used as a bomb, if you opened it up and put explosives inside.

I started to get really scared that I wouldn't be able to cross the checkpoint with what I had so I turned off onto a side street. There was an officer waiting there too. He motioned for me to come over. I asked him, "If I have something that I want to get rid of? Will I get in trouble?" He said no, that I could dump whatever I needed to with no questions asked. He opened my passenger side door and took out the meat cutter. He threw it into a huge dumpster that chopped it up into pieces. He came back over to my truck and said "I don't like doing this you know," and went on about how he was just doing his job, but didn't agree with what Israel was doing. I decided not to tell him about the rocket ship, if he didn't notice maybe the other officers wouldn't either. I drove back to the line to cross the checkpoint.

The next officers who stopped me were two young people, a girl and boy. They were dressed in jeans and blue and yellow polos, unlike the other officers who were all in grey uniforms. The girl opened my passenger side door and immediately grabbed the rocket ship and got really excited. "Look what I found here!" she said to boy and started saying stuff into her radio. I was terrified and started babbling excuses as to why I had it. The girl just stood there smiling and shaking her head. I said, "It's a toy. It's not what you think. Someone gave it to me." More officers started to show up. She held the rocket ship up to show them. They glared at me while the girl and boy smiled.

And then I woke up. I woke up terrified and couldn't fully fall back asleep after that.

Proving Ourselves

So in my dream, I'm a kid, but also my present age, and I'm with my immediate and extended family at "an old friend's house." In real life, I feel like it was my parents very old friends, the Kumars (Dr. Kumar sold my parents their first house for a buck or something and their son was a county supervisor here in Madison until last year). But the family we were visiting did not look like the Kumars. They were Indian, however. Just a different family.

There were two men in their twenties and one who was a teenager, maybe about 13 or 14 (the sons of the family we were visiting). While our parents sat in the dining room talking, the older sons came into the side room of the house where my siblings and cousins and myself were. The two men were holding machine guns and had bandanas around their heads that looked curiously like what Ralph Macchio wore in the The Karate Kid.

The two men announced that we were about to play a game to "prove ourselves." They headed out to the giant, dark backyard, guns in hand, and we all kind of looked at each other. Their younger brother got ready to go meet them, and we all knew he was about to get shot because nobody was as good at the game as the older brothers were. He looked devastated and full of dread as he slowly walked outside.

My siblings and cousins and I sat around, half watching television and half talking about why we shouldn't have to participate in this game. We kept saying things like "Isn't it time to leave anyhow?" And "We should check with the parents to see if we can get a ride home." We knew our turn was coming though.

At some point, one of the older men brought my friend D into the room and held him up against a dark green door. He used some thing on him that looked like it shocked him, and then something else that looked like a nail gun. He put the nail gun right up to D's chest and shot it. We knew D wasn't hurt or dead - he had just lost the game.

Finally we went into the room where all the parents were, which was bright and pink and yellow, full of cakes that were pink and white. The carpeting was yellow too. "Why didn't you guys get dessert?" my mom asked?

Then we left.

$11,000

I had a lot of stressful dreams last night. I had just bought a new car, a "Jetta" but really it looked liked a Prius. We went to a club and parked it outside. When we came back out to leave all the tires were gone from the car and it had been booted. When I called the number to deal with it this woman I used to lobby with answered the phone. She looked up how much it would cost me to get my tires back and the boot off. She said "11". I said "11 dollars?" and she said "11 thousand." Apparently I had broken some bigass law.

This car problem followed me through the night in other dreams. In one I had to help this woman escape from her abusive husband while he stole all her stuff, but uh oh, my getaway car had no tires. In another, I moved into this awful house with Reem and this scary woman who had rabies kept trying to get inside to get us. She basically looked like a clown with whiteface, too much blue around her eyes and lipstick smeared big around her mouth. When we tried to get away from her, the car had no tires and we were stuck.

Finally, there was the dream where I called my mother and confessed to her of my car fuck up and that I had an $11K bill to deal with. She called the company and it turned out it was all a big mistake. All of a sudden a marching band that included my cousin Layla came marching out carrying my tires which had been painted white. They laid them next to my wheeless Jetta.

Busted!

I had an awful dream last night that I was throwing a huge party at a club (which I am in a couple weeks) and I was walking out midway through it to go to the McDonald's across the street (which I totally wouldn't do). As I'm walking out, I see police walking in.

Fuck. I know there is pot everywhere. So I run back inside and tell my cousin Laith to start taking care of the mess before the police get inside. I meet the police at the door and turn on my dealing-with-police charm. They are friendly to me and say that they don't want make trouble, but they smell pot so that gives them the right to come inside.

I let them in, I have no other choice. Miraculously, the party which is now in my house and not the club, is immaculate. The house is as clean as it actually is right now immediately following a visit from my parents. The cops walk through and see nothing, but walk past my room as if they think its a closet. I'm leading them out, relieved that its over then one of them says to me- "things look alright, we just need to look in your bedroom and we'll be on our way."

Sure enough my room has piles of pot and paraphernalia everywhere. Fucking hell. I know I'm getting arrested. Every now and then as the cop looks away I hide some of the pot under a pillow, in my waistband, under a shoe. That is until the cop says "I see you hiding that."

I start begging him not to arrest me, to let this go, that I have important work to do that would be impeded by a conviction. I say something like "I won't be able to visit my clients in prison!" or something similarly ridiculous.

I woke up with a migraine that had a heartbeat of its own and nausea to boot.

The Bat Dream...Finally

I had an encounter with a bat in my apartment a couple of weeks ago, and I knew that I'd have the bat anxiety dream sooner or later...

I dreamed that my family and I (parents, siblings, a few cousins) were sitting around my current living room and a bat started flying around the room. Everybody seemed kind of bored by it. It would swoop by people's heads and they would duck slightly out of the way. I tried to remain calm/bored as well, but eventually I lost it a bit and started swatting it with a pillow. "This is what I keep telling you guys!" I yelled at my family. "This is how it was the last time this fucker was in here!"

I think my dad realized that I was somewhat distressed, so from his cross-legged sitting position on the floor, he reached up and slapped the bat. It was as if he was giving him a high five. Also, he was dressed in a plaid button down shirt and 70s-like pants. He was really skinny, even more than he is now. The bat fell to the floor and I covered it with one of my blue couch pillows.

About twenty minutes later, I lifted the pillow to see it. It was tiny, no bigger than my thumbnail, and kind of a beige color. "Oh," I said. "I guess it was just a moth."

Good and Bad

I had two strange dreams last night. . .

In one dream Tom and I were driving through Illinois for some reason. We were passing through a town when I saw my little cousin walking across the street with his mom, only in the dream it was a neighborhood friend from my childhood- not his real mom. I waved to them and she waved to me, but had an upset look on her face. As we kept driving I felt bad because I've never actually met my little cousin, he is like 2, and thought maybe we should stop and say hi. So we turned around and drove to the school where they were. I walked inside and into a big gymnasium full of kids playing. I saw my Aunt over by the wall and walked over to her. She was really surprised to see me, but for some reason kept turning to look at the wall really close up. She would randomly point to little specks on the wall while mumbling something to herself. I turned around and all of a sudden my dad was there. He came up and gave me a big hug and we talked about how crazy it was that I was there since I live in Texas. (I don't know why we were driving through Illinois). I decided I better go outside and find Tom since he hadn't come inside with me. I walked down a stairwell and found my mom and Grandma were there. They were so surprised to see me as well. I told them I had to go find Tom outside. As I was walking outside my phone kept getting text messages from people with foreign last names and the text messages were in a different language. I got maybe 30 text messages in a row. I finally found Tom outside and he was on the phone. He told me he was really excited because he was meeting all these people from Africa and giving them our phone numbers. I got really upset and told him to stop because I was getting all these text message that I didn't understand! I started to get concerned about my phone bill for a second and then remembered my family was inside. I went back inside and was standing in a lobby with my dad, mom and grandma wondering where my siblings were. I told my mom I should have brought my grandma's birthday card with me instead of sending it in the mail, (which I had done in real life that day), but I had no idea I was going to see them. I kept thinking to myself how if I had just kept driving I would never have known that my family was there!

The other dream I had was more disturbing . . .

Tom and I were in our new house and talking about how there were some abandoned houses nearby. He said they were low income housing projects going up, but they were all unfinished. I decided I wanted to go see them so I got in the car and drove over to them. There were numerous buildings made of concrete with tons of windows. Everywhere on the ground was gravel. I drove around looking for any sign of people. I finally found 4 girls all in the same gray shirt shoveling gravel. I got out of the car to talk to them. They said that the government had abandoned the project so they were trying to finish it. I realized they were part of some organization. I asked if I could help them, but they said I probably wouldn't be able to do it. All of a sudden there was an ambulance and cop cars pulling up to one of the buildings. I walked over and saw that there was a man pointing a gun at a woman who was yelling at him. She said a bunch of stuff, but all I remember is that she finally yelled "They're all going to think I'm crazy, I'm not crazy!" or something like that and then he shot her. I got distracted by a big hole in the wall of the building, there was a pipe coming out of the hole and blood was spilling from the pipe. I walked around to the other side of the building and looked in through a window. I saw blood all over the cement ground and a dog walking by the window all bloody and scratched up. I looked around the room and saw there were two cops and two dogs in the room. I realized the cops were torturing the dogs with guns and knives. I was horrified by seeing this and realized I had to get out of this area. I went looking for the 4 girls I had seen, but they were gone. I walked around trying to find my car, but I couldn't remember where I parked it. I started to get really freaked out and kept walking around the buildings looking for my car . . .

And then I woke up . . .

living

i was driving. there was someone else in the car. suddenly we were ambushed and several men came out behind a fence with guns and started firing. i looked down to see my belly had been shot several times. i was outside of the car at that point. my hands clutching the metal wire fence. and i thought to myself "this is it. the end of my life. i hope everyone knows how much i love them." and i kept repeating it to myself "i love them i love them i love them" over and over until i felt myself die.
i am a living example that you can, in fact, die in your dream and still live.

Dad's Dream about Vampires

While talking to my mother this evening she mentioned that my father was up half the night because he had a nightmare about vampires. Naturally I was intrigued. So Mom passed the phone off to Dad and he filled me in. So this is the dream that my dad had, told in the first person as in he's talking. I typed parts of this while he was telling me, so you should probably imagine an accent as you read this.

I was in Vampire Land and I was surrounded. At first the vampires were nice but then they were terrible and were doing horrible things and were changing shapes. And I had so many people to protect. But you know what I did? You know how I defeated them? The power of the mind. I just focused and the vampires would be so frustrated and then I would chop their heads off. I was the next vampire slayer.

But finally I had to get up and go to the bathroom and I was awake and I made myself stay awake because I had enough of this stupid dream. But I was exhausted from focusing so hard and killing all the vampires. So I laid awake until I was so tired and then I fell asleep again.

You know what's so interesting? The power of the mind. And how you can just focus and control others and beat the hell out of them.

It Got Him!

So for some reason I have a lot of extremely violent and gory dreams. More violent than any scarry movie I've seen or any TV show I've watched. Often people are getting killed. I don't know where these dreams come from as I can rarely make connections between them and to real life. They usually play like a movie. I am rarely in them, rather I am watching what is happening. This is one that I had last night, it's not as bad as some I have had.

It was night time and a man was running around outside of a house frantically. Two men were inside the house talking about how there is something in the town that is "getting" people. They see the man outside running around. They go outside in the yard to see what is wrong with him. He starts coughing and collapses on the ground. The two men walk over to him to see that he is convulsing on the ground and something is eating away at his body. Like parts of his body are melting away. They say "it got him!" they bend down to try to ask him questions. He smells so bad they have to plug their noses. "Did you see what it was?" The man who's body is decomposing in front of them shakes his head. One of the men says "I know you can't tell us his name, but what did he look like?" The man just convulses and eventually stops moving. The two men look at each other in horror.

Over in another part of the town a large group of people are coming out of a bar or building. There are two men walking ahead of everyone else in the group. They are all talking and laughing loudly when all of a sudden there is a loud noise and the two men that were ahead of everyone can't be seen. The group of people all stop and look frightened. They are looking around for them and calling out their names. All of a sudden they smell an awful smell and all start plugging their noses while they look around.

They finally come up to the two men who are laying on the ground in a pool of blood. The group of people start screaming and looking around. Out of the bushes comes a giant figure. A huge shadow covers them. They look up and see that it is a giant clown! A huge, maybe 30 ft tall, clown is standing over them in a red suit with white polka dots. He has a white face with red hair. He smiles at them showing he has huge sharp teeth that are all bloody. They look down and there is a trail of blood from where they are standing that leads off to the street where a huge clown car is parked. The clown car looks just like the giant clown's head, where the ears are the doors. They look back at the clown looking down at them . . . .

and then I don't remember the rest!!! I think my alarm went off! These dreams are usually really long and detailed and usually end with me waking up in the middle of the night.

My Worst Nightmare

I dreamed I was camping at Auntie Bridget's farm in Ireland. The context of this is not important. My job was to "make the perfect sandwich," which involved cracking an egg and having it land as a perfectly fried egg, over medium. The awful part was that I had to do this on top of my left eyeball, underneath my eyelid.

If you've met me, you probably know how awful and painful it is for me to write this, as I am extremely squeamish about eyes, and even the word "eyeball" makes me want to vomit. I blocked out the dream for quite awhile today until I realized my left eye had been hurting a bit. I then remembered this stupid ass dream and assumed that maybe I had rubbed my eye a lot in my sleep.

This was extremely awful and painful to write, and part of me wanted to forget it ever happened. But look how brave I am!

THE Shark Recurring Dream

I have had this dream at least once a year since I was a little kid. The event that sparked the first time was a trip to the Jaws exhibit at Universal Studios in California. Man that scared the hell out of me.

My sister and I are at the pool with our father. We are next to the diving pool which is square-shaped and very deep. There are two massive sharks in it that take up the length of the pool. There is a guy there dressed in what can be best described as carnie-clother - red and white striped hat and vest, white pants - and he is in charge of this rather flimsy looking lever. The lever has two directions: good and evil. When the lever is on good, the sharks are still, barely moving, almost like they are "off". When its on evil, te sharks become viscious, bloodthirsty.

Each time I have the dream it goes a little differently, but everytime what happens is:

1. Dad slips and falls in the pool
2. I run over to the lever. Its stuck on Evil.
3. I try to pull the lever back to Good but it breaks off in my hands.

Screams, then I wake up. I was afraid to swim in pools for a few years as a kid.

In Bed with the Rats

this is actually from 4/11/08

I had a set of awful dreams last night - the kind where you wake up, tell yourself it isn't real, then fall back asleep and dream the whole same damn thing all over again.

My dream was that I was in this courtyard and I was trying to get to a legislator's house. I don't know who the legislator is but there is a sense of urgency that if I don't get there something terrible will happen.

In the dream I'm wearing my super cute vintage green heels and I have to hop around all these dark spots on the path. As I move forward, I start to think that the spots are blood. Ick. As I get closer I realize that what I am seeing are the decapitated (for lack of better words) tails of rats. Vomit.

I am literally playing hopscotch trying to avoid the rat pieces that are multiplying by the moment, trying to keep my lunch down. Finally I reach a house that would otherwise be beautiful if it wasn't covered in dead rat mass. There was a veranda framed by wisteria- but hell, even the beauty and fragrance of wisteria can't cover up this mess.

When I walk inside the house, I feel a formidable sense of dread. There is nowhere to sit down or move to- as now I can see where the rat bodies previously attached to the tails have accumulated.

I am scared, nervous, apprehensive. I'm about to meet someone who is bad enough that they would actually live in this hellhole.

Around the corner of the room peeks Georgia Speaker of the House Glenn Richardson. That's when I wake up in terror, drenched.
